Dolphins want extension for Sparano

The Miami Dolphins are prepared to offer head coach Tony Sparano a one-year extension through 2012, but sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen there are raw emotions stemming from the team's pursuit of Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh met earlier Thursday with Miami owner Stephen Ross in the San Francisco area about the Dolphins' job, sources told Mortensen. But Harbaugh and the Dolphins broke off talks later in the day, sources told The Associated Press. A source told Mortensen on Thursday night that the Dolphins will retain Sparano.

Sounds to me like an apologetic offering, similar to what Daniel Snyder did with Donovan McNabb. I'm not buying it.
