Carolina to name Ron Rivera to Head Coaching position

The Carolina Panthers are calling all other candidates today to let them know hat they are moving in another direction. They will name San Diego's Defensive Coordinator, Ron Rivera, their new head coach sometime this week.

My Opinion: Ron Rivera is a great coach and should help Carolina's defense a lot. However, I feel Carolina's biggest challenge is getting their offense going. Now that Andrew Luck is staying in school and it's apparent that they will be sticking with Jimmy Claussen at QB, they really ought to be trying to get him a head coach that will work with him and mold the team around him. Jon Gruden would've been a perfect fit there but it seems that he'll be sitting out this season to prepare for the mass openings next season. All in all, look out for a stronger D in Carolina, but don't worry about them putting 40 points on you any time soon.

  1. Carolina is in severe cost cutting mode (in anticipation of lockout) and it is not surprising that they did not go for a big name. The big question is if they are going to spend real money to resign DeAngelo Williams and Steve Smith? Smith has put his Charlotte home on the market!
